Part 1: A FAUSTIAN PREROGATIVE - INTANGIBLE MATERIALITY
INTANGIBLE MATERIALITY
By, Bruce Duensing

Now we are again at our wits' end, there where the reason of you
mortals snaps from over-stretching. Why do you enter into fellowship with us if
you can not carry it through? Will you
fly and are not safe from dizziness? Did we force ourselves on you or you on us?"
-Mephistopheles in "Faust" by Goethe
In the last post, which concerned the potential evolution of
aerial phenomenon from its pre-technological manifestation in dragon lore to
its contemporary metamorphosis as a virtual machine with organic properties
which parallels our own evolution of theories regarding the nature of the
universe as a macrocosm of ourselves, despite the fact there can be no basis of
comparison when one of the two intertwined perspectives between subject and
object is unknown onto itself, prone to influence, which makes the human zero
point of self description preeminently pliable in relation to its psychological
adaptation to it's environment.
This is a story of my descent, if you will into extreme illness
and a metaphysical near death experience among the living, all of which began
with the strange idea that if we abandoned the paranormal, it would in of
itself cease to exist...and so this may be a story of retribution, of
coincidence or the initiatory tale of a madman. The larger question is one that
only you can answer, is our relationship with the paranormal one of a Faustian
transaction with a prescription of cost, or is all of this a free lunch? More
importantly, what do we receive in return? Are we capable of making a valuation
of worth once we return to the daylight from the shadows or is all of what we
have gathered in our quest, merely trinkets exchanged for our sincerity toward
an insincere broker?
This is a journey into a form of "photism" meant and
known to some as the "black light" termed "potentia", as
the blackness that produces all color and form from within as it has no
similarities as in it's aggregate sum it is incomparable and as a matter of
causation is invisible to our sensory cognition. This is the heart of the
anomalous, the "paranormal" and then we must ask a dualistic
question; does the paranormal seek us or do we seek it? Or then again is it
this a matter of enfoldment that is due to the dualism of our positioning
between the seen and unseen? If so why does the right hand appear to be unable
to read what the left is doing in relation to itself as the antitheses or
mutual correlations in human perceptions of phenomena in the natural world? Or
is this the manifestation of Abraxas wherein the world of the paranormal in its
antitheses or mutual correlations become relativistic and of no value? To
answer this perhaps is a question we must sincerely pose to ourselves in regard
to the paranormal, what is it that we seek?
